Blowout Book Sale at Needham Public Library Runs June 12-19, 2004

Biggest Book Sale Ever Helps Library Clear Shelves for New Building

NEEDHAM, Mass., May 2004 — As the Needham Public Library prepares to say good-bye to the old building and make way for new construction, the Friends of the Needham Public Library is sponsoring its biggest book sale ever. This unprecedented week-long sale of donated books features a silent auction, children’s activities, music, and a farewell celebration. The book sale begins Saturday, June 12 at 9:00 a.m. and runs through noon on Saturday June 19.

A Silent Auction will feature unusual books, first editions and autographed books on Saturday, June 12, from 8:00 - 11:00 a.m. On Sunday June 13, special festivities on the library’s Rosemary Street lawn (weather permitting) will include children’s activities, American music by The Bobcats, and a farewell celebration with cake-cutting and speeches from town officials including Selectmen Chairman James Healy, Library Trustees Chairman Lois Sockol, and Librarian Ann MacFate.

Price Reductions and Free Books

Automatic price reductions start Sunday, June 13, with free books from June 17-19 (although financial contributions will be welcomed).

About the Friends

The Friends of the Needham Public Library is a nonprofit group organized in 1973 for the purpose of advancing the goals and enriching the resources of the Library. The Friends’ support for the library includes supplementing the town’s budget for the purchase of materials, museum passes, and the funding and planning for various programs for enrichment throughout the year.
