Petrostate

Marshall I. Goldman is an economist who has specialized in the Soviet and now the Russian economy. He will speak about his new book Petrostate: Putin, Power, and the New Russia (Oxford University Press), a timely examination of the resurgence of Russia in an environment of sharply increasing oil prices. His book explores how Vladimir Putin has exploited the favorable oil market of the last decade to strengthen Russia's financial position and remake the Russian economy.

Professor Goldman is Davis Professor of Economics Emeritus at Wellesley College and Senior Scholar at the Davis Center for Russion Studies at Harvard University. He remains close to sources from the former Soviet Union and in the "new Russia," including Mikhail Gorbachev and Vladimir Putin. His analysis of the policies implemented by Putin is informed by many visits to the country for over twenty years, and currently.

Copies of his book will be available for sale and autograph following the presentation, thanks to the assistance of New England Mobile Book Fair.
